5 Must-Try Over 50 Workout Routine Exercises to Get Your Blood Pumping

When most people think of exercise, they imagine themselves running for hours on a treadmill, red-faced and counting down the seconds until it ends.

Ask anyone and they’ll probably tell you that the hardest part about over 50 workout routine exercises is actually motivating themselves to get to the gym.

The good news is that exercising can be fun – after all, it’s just about getting your body moving – and there is more than one way to do that.

Here are a few of the most exciting exercise routines on the market at the moment and you’re bound to find something that will get you enthusiastic about exercising again.

5 Top over 50 workout routine Ideas

Prancercise

Prancercise is a very unique form of cardio exercise created by Joanna Rohrback, a 61 year old with the tones abs of a much younger woman. This form of exercise is described by Rohrbach as “springy” and can be compared “to a horse’s gait”.

It was back in 2013 that this form of exercise really became popular after a video of the class went viral and since then, classes have seen many over 50s get involved in this fitness program.

Live Action Role Playing

Remember when you were young and spent hours running, jumping and practically playing your way to a fit and healthy physique? If only it could be that easy, right? Well, it can be thanks to a over 50 workout routine that involves LARPING, or Live Action Role Playing.

These groups are just about all over the world and they involve individuals taking on certain personas within made-up worlds, and it often requires running, jumping and even play-combat.

The costumes, fake weapons and makeup add to the fantasy element and allow people to really get into character.

Cycle Karaoke

Spinning is a fantastic way to get fit. Not only does it impact just about every muscle in the body, but it is a great cardio workout. The problem is that for many, it just doesn’t spark a level of interest that would keep them coming back to the gym for more – until now.

Cycle Karaoke is a version of spinning that will not only have over 50s coming back to the gym to improve their fitness, but will test their singing abilities too. You want to do everything you can to turn back the aging clock. Each class allows one singer to try their hand (or lungs) at their favourite song while the others spin along in support.

It takes some courage to get going, but perhaps this is a good thing, considering it will distract you from the miles your covering on the bike.

swing

Swing Dancing

Swing dancing is not just for the young and spritely – it’s a fantastic over 50 workout routine that will bring partners closer as they twist, turn and tap their way to a healthier body.

Dancing isn’t just about working out – it’s also about getting dressed up for a night out and this couldn’t be further from a dreaded one hour session at the gym.

Trampoline Workout

The trampoline workout is yet another cardio-focused, over fifty workout routine that will get your heart pumping in a matter of minutes. These workout sessions take place on individual trampolines, with some classes offering great music and even disco balls to get their students in the mood.

These classes vary with regards to intensity and even style, so it’s up to you to decide which one is right for you.

An over 50 workout routine doesn’t have to be a struggle – in fact, you can have a lot of fun working away those hours of sitting in front of the television and eating take outs – you just have to know where to look.

  1. Thanks for the nice over 50 workout routine exercises list! I am excited about starting Swing dancing as soon as it’s possible. Live action role playing also sounds like it could be a lot of fun and it’s weird and I like that :)!

I mean, who doesn’t like dressing up in all sorts of funny costumes and then go act like a 4-year old, right? I love every experience where I can be a kid again, where I can have fun without having to think too much about it.
