Erectile dysfunction is something many men begin to become anxious about as they get older, and this is likely because so many feel that it is an inevitable part of the ageing process.

Much of the anxiety and fear surrounding 50 year old erectile dysfunction has to do with a lack of knowledge surrounding this condition and its causes, which is why information can go such a long way in helping men to overcome their negative reactions surrounding the issue.

1. Psychological Conditions

Nearly 20% of 50 year old erectile dysfunction problems stem from psychological issues, including stress. In some cases, the strong negative reaction to the thought of struggling with erectile dysfunction can actually make it more likely that someone does indeed experience it at some stage or another.

Certain life events, such as divorce, the death of a loved one or even a job loss can contribute to this problem.

2. Heart Conditions

The prevalence of heart conditions tends to rise with age and this is a major contributor of 50 year old erectile dysfunction problems. Heart conditions that could end up contributing to erectile dysfunction include; heart disease, atherosclerosis and even high blood pressure.

High cholesterol levels also have an effect on ED because these can hinder the blood flow throughout the body, forcing the heart to work much harder than it should. Ultimately, this makes it difficult for men to maintain their erections.

3. Obesity

There is a variety of reasons why obesity contributes to the possibility of developing 50 year old erectile dysfunction. For one thing, obesity tends to affect how the hormones function within the body, including testosterone, and this alone can contribute to a rise in ED.

Furthermore, obesity makes it more difficult for the heart to pump blood throughout the body, and this in turn makes it more difficult for a man to maintain an erection.

Obesity does not simply affect the body – it also has a negative impact on the mind, and this, once again, can lead to a marked increase in individuals experiencing ED.

4. Hyperthyroidism

An overactive thyroid affects the overall temperature within the body, as well as the blood flow, which impact a variety of systems. Furthermore, high levels of this hormone have been known to actually inhibit the libido, which can lead to issues with erectile dysfunction in individuals who are over 50.

5. Medications

There are a variety of medications on the market that can lead to erectile dysfunction at fifty, including anticonvulsants, which are taken for chronic pain and migraines. Men should always ensure they are aware of the potential side effects of the medications they are taking.

50 year old Erectile dysfunction is a problem experienced by men throughout the world, but it is most certainly not an inevitable one. While the chances of experiencing ED arise once a man reaches his 50s , understanding the causes helps these individuals to ensure they take care of themselves, lowering their chances of struggling with the condition further down the line. Circumstances like this can often lead to divorce.
